Callum Kaye to take on role of new International Commissioner from August, when Jack Maxton steps down

As many members will already be aware, our International Commissioner, Jack Maxton, will soon come to the end of his term, after a very successful period in post.

Back in November 2018, we started recruiting for Jack’s successor, and we’re delighted to announce that Callum Kaye – our current Deputy International Commissioner  – will be taking on the role for the next 3 to 5 years. Leading on the development of our international work, he will consult on our international relationships and engagement, supporting the growth and development of Scouting overseas and in the UK.

To assist in the handover, Callum will attend a number of events jointly with Jack in the first half of 2019, before taking on the role in August.

Callum joined Scouting as a Cub Scout. He started his adult volunteer journey back in 2003, when he took on the role of Assistant Cub Scout Leader. Locally, he’s since volunteered as an Assistant Explorer Scout Leader, Explorer Scout Commissioner and County Media Development Manager. On a national scale, he’s spent the last few years volunteering as Deputy International Commissioner for the UK, attending several world events including the World Scout Jamboree, where he worked alongside the media team to spread news of what was happening in Japan.

Outside Scouting, Callum works for the NHS as a Consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine. In his spare time, he loves travelling, going to the gym and walking with his dog.

Speaking on his appointment, Callum said: ‘I’m really looking forward to joining Team UK and to supporting international opportunities as much as possible - working with other countries to see how they have managed problems, and taking new ideas back to the UK.’

UK Chief Commissioner Tim Kidd said: 'On behalf of everyone in Scouting, we’d like to thank Jack for his incredible contribution to Scouting over the last four years, and congratulate Callum on his new role. Callum has an excellent track record as Deputy International Commissioner, and we can't wait to see what he brings to the table when he takes on the role.'
